Advent Day 12: Greatest In The Kingdom

Advent Day 12 Reading: Matthew 11:11-15

I tell you the truth: Among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it. For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John. And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come. He who has ears, let him hear.

As Mary was chosen to physically give birth to the Son of God our Messiah, Jesus Christ; John the Baptist was chosen to spiritually give birth to our revelation of Him, by identifying Jesus Christ as our Savior, Lord, and sacrificial Lamb that was slain before the foundation of the world. Interestingly, Jesus and John were actually cousins and grew up together. Elizabeth, John’s mother carried and gave birth to John at approximately the same time as Mary was with pregnant with Jesus.  It’s was exactly as God had planned it to be.

God knew that John, a man of boldness and fervor would at all costs fulfill the vision and purpose that He had been planned for His life; that of being the forerunner to proclaim both the Savior’s coming and our need for repentance and decision to receive Him. Next to actually giving birth to the Savior, this could be construed as the greatest privilege and honor given to man.

Although I would agree, I am also excited to know that God is no respecter of persons.  As the scripture goes on in this passage to mention, yet he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. Matthew 11:b  The reason being for this is Father God is no respecter of persons and values each person the same.  His commodity for greatness is not measured by what we do, but by who we are, and we ARE all His beloved children.

Although we are each called to co-labor and fulfill a different part of His plan and purpose, our greatness and value is never determined by what we do. We also are exhorted in the scriptures not to compare our value to others, nor think more highly of one person than another because of………………….well; you fill in the blank.

The truth is we are ALL great in God’s eyes!  We are ALL loved!  We are ALL important!  We are ALL precious, highly favored and blessed. That is the good news of the Gospel. God so loved the world (not just the person who accomplishes this, or succeeds at that), that He gave His only begotten Son for us.  WE ARE ALL SPECIAL.

Do you truly see yourself that way, or do you base your worth or others on performance, accomplishments, looks, popularity, etc?  If God sees and values us with such greatness for no other reason but because we are His; then why shouldn’t we do the same? I encourage you to some time and take and inside look. If you find that you do not feel as if you measure up, or are as important as so and so to God………..because………….choose with me today to change that stinkin’ thinkin’.

Although we cannot BE God, because we are all created in the image of God, and thus, like God, we are all ALL  esteemed by God equally. Even though the disciple John thought he was Jesus’ favorite, I’m here to tell you,  there are no favorites.  Relish in that for awhile, and I know it will put a big smile on your face and wash away any sense of inferiority that might be plaguing you today.  Remember, You are His masterpiece, and His priceless treasure, and the love of His life!

Judgment, anger, rejection and shame;

those ol’ friends and attitudes, have now passed away.

For I’m a new creature, in Christ and I’m changed;

transformed, a new creation, never to be the same.

 I am God’s beloved daughter, His beautiful precious jewel;

His prized and treasured possession, that He cherishes and woos.

So, no longer do I, need to punish myself;

with those negative accusations, taking a toll on my health.

 My well-being and mind, causing chaos, unrest;

but instead offer forgiveness, bringing release from the stress.

 And embrace, nurture, love, massage my heart, touch and rub;

it with tender loving care, telling myself, becoming more aware.

 That I’m His precious jewel, and I’m so beautiful;

O’ He loves me so, and THIS is what makes my life whole.
