Savor This

It’s that time of year our taste buds begin to anticipate the delicious aroma and array of our favorite foods and flavors. Thanksgiving Day gatherings with family and friends, whether formal and informal are a most enjoyable time for savoring!.  Much planning and preparation goes into preparing tried and true recipes all will enjoy and be thankful for.

November seems to also be a month of giving thanks for the many individual blessings, both great and small we’ve been given. As I’ve been pondering the idea, it has crossed my mind to do something a little bit different, by combining the two.  Giving thanks, or savoring the goodness of God, but not particularly for my individual blessings, but through remembrance of His great and precious promises to me.

God’s Word as Psalm 23 says, can be likened to a table set before us to feast upon.  It is resplendent with both dainty morsels, as well as main dishes to satisfy any appetite.  In Psalm 34:8, the psalmist encourages us to taste and see that the Lord is good! So today, tasting and seeing is exactly what I am going to do. Below is a list of many of God’s promises I am truly thankful for. As you read them please take a moment to pause and savor their taste with me:

  • I am fearfully and wonderfully made!
  • I have the mind of Christ
  • Nothing can separate me from His love
  • He is able to do immeasurably beyond all I could ask or imagine
  • The gift of the Holy Spirit that lives and dwells within me, bringing comfort, direction, and you name it~ He does it!
  • The gift of everlasting, unconditional love and Eternal Life
  • Forgiveness and paying the penalty for all my sins
  • Release from all condemnation
  • Healing of all my diseases
  • Delivers from all evil and oppression
  • Freedom!
  • Intimate, constant, continual, friendship
  • That He will be my Refuge in times of trouble
  • Peace that surpasses understanding
  • Joy!
  • Grace
  • Answered prayer
  • The making of all things new
  •  He is coming again!

And the list goes on, and on, and on. Each day I spend time with Him savoring His love letter of promises to me, I am filled, renewed and  refreshed.  His Word is alive and imparts life, hope and meaning to my life~ giving me new purposes and reasons to journey on.

Why not take some time to savor His promises for you~ and if need be, turn your eyes upon Jesus~ and look full into His wonderful face~ and as you do the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.

Happy Thanksgiving!
